Which Frigidaire dishwasher is the quietest?
The Frigidaire Gallery GDPH4525AF is the quietest Frigidaire dishwasher on paper, at 42 dBA, but only with its Quiet and Gentle setting chosen; for the Normal cycle Frigidaire lists 45 dBA.
Its spec sheet is even titled as an "Ultra Quiet 42 dBA Dishwasher". The owner's guide explains the setting: with Quiet & Gentle, "the water pressure in the spray arms is lowered, reducing the noise level," and Frigidaire recommends it "for lightly soiled loads only." So 42 describes light loads, and 45 is the figure to expect from an ordinary full one.
What the GDPH4525AF gives up for that figure is the tub. It is plastic, in a gray Frigidaire calls Midnight Ink, with two racks rather than three, Static Vent drying and a $549 sale price against $629. Every other Gallery at 47 dBA or less has a stainless steel tub and a third rack.
Frigidaire's Sound Level is a single dBA number in each dishwasher's spec table, repeated on the PDF spec sheet, and for 20 of the 21 models Frigidaire never says which cycle, distance or test standard produced it.
The GDPH4525AF footnote is the exception, and it raises a question about the 45 dBA Normal figure. That matches the 45 printed for the GDSH4735AF, GDSP4735AF and PDSH4816BF, but those three name no cycle, so the match may not mean the same thing. We list the GDPH4525AF with both figures and do not rank its 42 against any other model.
The wording around the figure shifts from page to page. Some pages write dBA and others dBa, and feature headings run from "Very Quiet at 49 dBa" to "Quiet as a whisper at 51 dBa". The spec tables underneath always say "Sound Level" in dBA, and those are the numbers used here.
Rival makers print a similar number under other labels, among them Bosch and GE. None of the three states its test conditions, so a gap between brands tells you less than a gap inside Frigidaire's own range.
How loud are Frigidaire Gallery dishwashers?
Frigidaire Gallery dishwashers list 42 to 52 dBA across eight models, and the four with stainless tubs, CleanBoost and a third rack sit at 45 or 47. Prices are frigidaire.com sale prices on October 23, 2026, with the struck-through price in brackets.
- 42 dBA on Quiet and Gentle, 45 dBA on Normal: GDPH4525AF, plastic tub, bar handle, $549 ($629), out of stock.
- 45 dBA: GDSH4735AF, bar handle, and GDSP4735AF, pocket handle, both $899 ($1,049) and in stock.
- 47 dBA: GDSH4715AF, bar handle, $849 ($949), in stock, and its black stainless twin GDSH4715AD, $899 ($999), out of stock. GDSP4715AF, pocket handle, $849 ($949), in stock.
- 49 dBA: GDSP471TAF, wide pocket handle, stainless tub, no price shown, out of stock.
- 51 dBA: GDHH4527AF, hybrid tub, $449 ($599), out of stock.
- 52 dBA: GDPP4515AF, plastic tub, pocket handle, $499 ($599), out of stock.
Within the Gallery line the figure follows the model more than the handle. The 4735 pair with Adaptive Quick Wash list 45, the 4715 pair without it list 47, and the bar and pocket handle versions of each agree. The GDSP471TAF is the odd one, at 49 dBA despite its stainless tub and third rack.
How many decibels is the Frigidaire Professional dishwasher?
The Frigidaire Professional PDSH4816BF lists 45 dBA, and it is the only dishwasher in the Professional series on frigidaire.com.
Its spec sheet reads much like the Gallery GDSH4735AF's: seven cycles, a third rack, MaxBoost drying, a leak sensor and the same 45 dBA. The GDSP4735AF page offers it as an "Available Upgrade" for "+$50", noting "Premium Industrial Design". The extra $50 buys styling, then, rather than a lower figure. It was $949 on sale, against $1,099, and in stock.
How loud are Frigidaire's base series dishwashers?
Frigidaire's base series, sold under the plain Frigidaire name, spans 49 to 62 dBA across 12 models, from stainless tub machines with third racks down to plastic tub, front control ones.
- 49 dBA: FDSH4411AF, bar handle, $599 ($669), in stock. FDSP4501AS, pocket handle, $699 ($799), in stock. FDSR4501AP, panel ready, $899 ($999), in stock. FDSH4502BF, bar handle, no price shown, out of stock. FDHP4336AS, hybrid tub, $540 ($599), out of stock.
- 52 dBA, plastic tub: FDPH4316A, bar handle, in black FDPH4316AB and white FDPH4316AW at $449 ($509), in stock, black stainless FDPH4316AD at $519 ($579), in stock, and stainless FDPH4316AS at $449 ($529), out of stock. FDPH431LAF, no price shown, out of stock.
- 52 dBA, stainless tub: FFBD2420U, ADA compliant, front controls, with the white FFBD2420UW at $720 ($799) in stock and the stainless and black versions out of stock. The 18 inch FFBD1831U has its own section below.
- 54 dBA: FDPC4314A, plastic tub, front controls, with black and white at $399 ($479), in stock, and stainless at $399 ($499), out of stock.
- 55 dBA: FFCD2413U, plastic tub, front controls, with white and black at $399 ($449), in stock, and stainless at $399 ($469), out of stock.
- 62 dBA: FDPC4221A, plastic tub, front controls, two cycles, not ENERGY STAR certified, $329 ($399 to $419) in all three colors, all in stock.
The five 49 dBA models make the shortlist here. Bar handle, pocket handle, panel ready and hybrid tub designs all print the same figure, so inside this group the choice turns on tub, racks and price rather than on noise.
How loud is Frigidaire's 18 inch dishwasher?
Frigidaire's only 18 inch dishwasher, the FFBD1831U, lists 52 dBA, the same as the shorter 24 inch FFBD2420U and the plastic tub FDPH4316A.
It is ADA compliant and 32 1/2 inches tall at its lowest setting, with a stainless tub, front controls and room for 8 place settings. The black FFBD1831UB was in stock at $764 ($849); the stainless FFBD1831US, $809 ($899), and the white version showed out of stock. Other brands' 18 inch dishwashers are its real competition.
Is a Frigidaire dishwasher loud?
No, not for most of the range: 18 of Frigidaire's 21 dishwashers list 52 dBA or less. The FDPC4314A at 54, the FFCD2413U at 55 and the FDPC4221A at 62 make up the loud end.
Those three share plastic tubs and front controls, and they are Frigidaire's cheapest dishwashers, $329 to $399 on sale. The FDPC4221A also has just two cycles and no ENERGY STAR certification.
Each 10 dBA rise sounds roughly twice as loud to most people, so on paper the FDPC4221A is about double a 52 dBA model. That only holds if Frigidaire measured both the same way, which it does not say.
Which Frigidaire dishwashers carry the Whisper Quiet badge?
Frigidaire's Whisper Quiet badge appears on 11 models that list 45 to 51 dBA, but not on the 42 dBA GDPH4525AF, whose own feature heading reads "Quiet as a whisper at 42 dBa".
The badge doubles as a "Sound Level" filter on the dishwasher listing, yet the model with the lowest figure never earns it. The badge also skips the 49 dBA FDSH4502BF while including the 51 dBA GDHH4527AF. Frigidaire publishes no threshold for the badge, so we read it as a marketing label and go by the dBA figure.
Does a stainless steel tub make a Frigidaire quieter?
No, not on Frigidaire's own figures: its stainless tub models list 45 to 52 dBA, its two hybrid tubs 49 and 51, and its plastic tubs anywhere from 42 to 62.
Stainless does gather at the low end, since every model at 45 or 47 dBA except the GDPH4525AF has one. That plastic tub Gallery is the outlier, credited on its page with being "extra insulated". Below $500 on sale, every Frigidaire has a plastic or hybrid tub, and those models list 51 to 62 dBA.
Is a 49 dBA Frigidaire noticeably quieter than a 52 or 55 dBA one?
Yes, though only slightly against 52: a 3 dBA step is small but can be heard in a quiet room, while the 6 dBA between 49 and 55 is a clearer drop.
Frigidaire's prices climb with those steps. Moving from the $399 FFCD2413U at 55 dBA to the $599 FDSH4411AF at 49 adds a stainless tub and third rack along with the lower figure. Dropping from 49 to the 45 dBA Gallery models costs about $300 more on sale. Every one of these numbers comes from the same Sound Level row, though Frigidaire never says each model was tested the same way.
What noises are normal during a Frigidaire wash cycle?
Frigidaire's owner's guides call water fill, spray, draining and motor sounds normal, along with a change in sound, and a brief silence, when the wash switches between the lower and middle spray arms.
The GDSH4735AF guide says "There is a noticeable change in sound when the wash action switches between the lower and middle spray arm. This is normal since each spray arm has its own sound." It adds that the wash motor "pulsates throughout the cycle, which varies water pressure and optimizes performance."
The GDPH4525AF guide adds a note for anyone replacing an older machine: "If you compare this dishwasher to previous models, you may be surprised at what you DON'T hear." Neither guide puts a decibel figure on any of these sounds.
Which Frigidaire dishwashers could you order on October 23?
On October 23, 2026, frigidaire.com would deliver 20 of its 35 dishwasher listings, including all three 45 dBA models, but not the 42 dBA GDPH4525AF.
Stock was shown for a North Carolina ZIP code the site chose by default, and it may differ elsewhere. Three models, the GDSP471TAF, FDSH4502BF and FDPH431LAF, showed no price at all. Retailers may still carry the ones Frigidaire had run out of.
When you match a retailer's listing to these figures, read the whole model number. A color letter change, such as FDPH4316AS to FDPH4316AW, keeps the figure, while the GDSH4735AF and GDSH4715AF, two digits apart, list 45 and 47 dBA.
