About us
You live beside your appliances all day. The fridge hums through dinner, the fan runs all night, and the dishwasher starts just as the house goes quiet.
QuietSpecs covers one question: which version of this thing is actually quiet? We rank home appliances and household gear by how loud they are: washing machines, air conditioners, fans, heaters, range hoods, robot vacuums, generators and everything else you live beside.
Our mission is to help you buy the quiet one, using the figures makers publish.
Makers rarely make that easy. A figure may describe only the quietest setting, name no distance, or not exist at all. We read the spec sheets, manuals and certification directories, quote each figure with the setting it describes, and say plainly when there is nothing to quote.
Thanks for being here,
Stanley Alu, founder and editor
Every figure on QuietSpecs is the maker's own, quoted with the setting it describes and linked to its source.
Whether you are choosing a dishwasher for an open kitchen, a fan for a light sleeper or a leaf blower that will not wake the street, you will find the published figures side by side, the conditions they were measured under, and the makers who publish nothing.
About QuietSpecs
Who is behind QuietSpecs
Stanley Alu, founder and editor. I founded QuietSpecs after running a product review blog, and I built it around the spec that is hardest to pin down. With noise, makers tend to quote the quietest setting they can find, or nothing at all. So I read the spec sheets, manuals and certification directories, quote each figure with the setting it describes, and say so plainly when a maker publishes none. I do not test products or measure decibels, and no brand pays for a place in a guide.

Datasheet Media
QuietSpecs is published under the name Datasheet Media. Every brand it runs follows one rule: products are compared only on figures their makers publish, quoted with the condition each one describes, and never on our own guesses.
How the guides are made
We collect the manufacturer's published noise rating for every model, at the fan speed, mode or cycle the figure describes, and we say which one that is.
We check each figure against the maker's own spec sheet or manual, or a certification directory such as HVI or ENERGY STAR. When a maker publishes no noise figure at all, we say so.
Each pick shows its published figure and the maker's list price with the date we saw it, and we re-check prices as we update guides. Where a maker's own pages disagree with each other, we quote both figures.
How pages are written
Every page is written and edited by a person who read the source documents, with research assistance from software. Nothing is paraphrased from another review site: the sources listed under each page are the documents we actually read.
Keeping pages up to date
Guides and explainers carry a "How we reviewed this article" section with a dated entry for each substantive revision, so you can see when a page last changed and why. Prices show the date and time we last checked them.
When a maker revises a manual, replaces a model or publishes a new figure, the page is updated and the revision recorded.
What we don't do
We do not test products or measure decibels ourselves, and we never pretend otherwise. Makers rarely say how far away, or to what standard, their figures were measured.
So we treat published ratings as a way to compare models with each other, not as a promise about your room, and we tell you where a figure describes only the quietest setting.

How we make money
When you buy through our links, the retailer may pay us a commission, and we show ads on some pages. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
That never changes the price you pay, and it never changes our rankings. We don't accept payment for a placement in a guide.
