How loud are LG DUAL Inverter window air conditioners?
LG DUAL Inverter window units list 54 to 62 dBA on high and 44 in sleep, the only LG window models with four figures. All but the LW1522FVSM label them "dBA Level (High/Mid/Low/Sleep)", and the 6,000 BTU model has no row. Prices and stock are lg.com's own on October 21, 2026, for the ZIP code the site defaulted to, 90210.

LG still keeps a page for the 14,000 BTU LW1517IVSM, marked discontinued, listing 58/55/52/44 and "LoDecibel™ Quiet Operation". It cannot be bought from LG, so it is not ranked here.
Does LG's "as low as 44 dB" mean low fan or sleep?
Sleep, by LG's spec tables, which put 44 under Sleep and 46 to 55 under Low on every inverter that lists both. The marketing text says otherwise on some pages, so the table is the figure to read.
Three pages, the LW8022IVSM, LW1022IVSM and LW1222IVSM, attach a superscript to "as low as 44dB" and footnote it "When in sleep mode." That matches their tables.
The LW1022FVSM, LW1522IVSM, LW1822IVSM and LW2422IVSM carry the same footnote and also a second line, "LG window air conditioners operate at sound levels as low as 44dB (when in low mode)". The LW1224IVSM, LW1522FVSM, LW6023IVSM and LP1022FVSM pages have only the low mode version.
The LW1522IVSM table gives 52 for low, eight dBA above that 44. LG does not explain the conflict. A 10 dBA rise reads to most listeners as roughly twice as loud, so an eight dBA mix-up is not a rounding matter, as a chart of everyday decibel levels makes plain.
How loud is a standard LG window air conditioner?
LG's rotary window units list 52 to 65 dBA on high and 48 to 61 on low, climbing with capacity. Several labels name four settings and supply three numbers, or name three and supply two, so we copy each as LG prints it.
- 5,000 BTU: LW5024, LW5024X and LW5025R, 55/-/50 (High/Mid/Low), $179, $179 and $199, in stock. LW5022, 55/-/50, $179, out of stock. LW5023, no dBA row, $189, in stock.

The LW1424RD row is the odd one. Its "59/65" sits under "dBA Level (High/Mid/Low/Sleep)", and its page text says "as low as 59dB (when in low mode)", which would make the second number the high one. We leave it unranked.
The page text and the table also part ways elsewhere. The LW1217ERSM1 page says "as low as 50dB (when in low mode)" above a table whose lowest number is 53. The LW8017ERSM1 and LW1017ERSM1 pages have no dBA row at all, and the LW5023Y's only noise row, "Outdoor dB (A) (High)", reads 6055.
How quiet are LG window air conditioners with heat?
LG's heat and cool window units list 52 to 64 dBA on high and 50 to 62 on low, two figures each. Most labels say High/Mid/Low/Sleep with dashes or gaps where medium and sleep would go, and the LW8023HR manual confirms two fan speeds and no sleep button.
- 7,500 to 7,600 BTU: LW8023HR and LW8023HRSM, 52 and 50, $539 each, in stock. LW8016HR and LW8021HRSM, 52/50, out of stock.

- 23,000 BTU: LW2423HR and LW2423HRSM, 64/-/62/-, $859 each, in stock. LW2416HR and LW2421HRSM, 64/62, out of stock.
What is the LG portable air conditioner noise level?
LG portables list 51 to 57 dBA on high and 47 to 55 on low, with the two DUAL Inverter models adding 44 in sleep. Sizes below are LG's SACC ratings; the larger ASHRAE number sits beside each in the product name.
- 5,000 to 5,100 BTU: LP0526PGF, "Noise Indoor dB (A) (High/Low)" 52/-/50, $299, in stock. LP0525WFR, 54/50, $309, out of stock.
- 6,000 BTU: LP0626PGF and LP0626PGSF, 52/50, $339 and $349, in stock. LP0624WFR, 53/51, $329, in stock. LP0625WFR, 54/50, out of stock. LP0621WSR, 53/-/50/-, out of stock. LP0623WSR, no dBA row.
- 7,000 to 7,300 BTU: LP0725WSSM, 53/50, $389, in stock. LP0721WSR, 53/-/50/-, out of stock. LP0723WSR, no dBA row.
- 8,000 to 8,350 BTU: LP0825WSSM, 51/48, $439, in stock. LP0825WFR, 57/55, $399, in stock. LP0821GSSM, 52/-/49/-, out of stock. LP0823GSSM, no dBA row.
- 10,000 to 10,200 BTU: LP1419IVSM, "dBA Level (Front)" 53/50/47/44, $699, in stock. LP1022FVSM, 53/50/47/44, $699, in stock. LP1025WSSM and LP1025WHSM, 54/51, $539 and $599, in stock. LP1021BSSM and LP1021BHSM, 53/-/50/-, out of stock. LP1023BSSM, no dBA row, $519, in stock.
Many portable pages describe "LG Window Air Conditioners" in their noise sentence, and several give a different "as low as" number from their own table: the LP0525WFR says 57 against a table of 54/50. Rival makers' figures are on the quietest portable air conditioners page.
How loud are LG through-the-wall air conditioners?
LG's wall units list 56 to 62 dBA indoors on high and, on most models, an outdoor figure of 62 to 70 dBA. That outdoor number is the one a neighbor hears through an open window.
- 8,000 BTU: LT0816CER, High/Mid/Low 56/55/53, indoor/outdoor 56/62, $579, in stock.
- 9,800 BTU: LT1016CER (115 V) and LT1036CER (230 V), 56/55/53, indoor/outdoor 56/65, $629 and $679, in stock.
- 10,000 BTU with heat: LT1037HNR, indoor/outdoor 56/63, $729, out of stock. LT1033HNR, 57/-/54, $789, out of stock.
- 11,200 to 12,000 BTU: LT12124CNR, indoor/outdoor 60/66, $649, in stock. LT1216CER, 60/66, out of stock. LT1236CER, 59/65, $699, in stock. LT1237HNR with heat, 59/65, out of stock. LT1233HNR with heat, 59/-/56, $869, in stock.
- 14,000 BTU: LT1430CNR, 62/60/58, indoor/outdoor 58/70, $749, in stock.
The LT1430CNR pair reads oddly: its indoor figure, 58, matches its low setting rather than its 62 on high. Which fan setting LG used for the indoor and outdoor pair is not stated. Wall sleeve units from Friedrich, GE and others sit on the quietest through-the-wall air conditioners page.
Is an LG DUAL Inverter quieter than a regular LG window unit?
Yes, an LG DUAL Inverter lists lower figures than a rotary LG on low and in sleep, but not always on high. At 8,000 BTU, the LW8022IVSM beats the rotary LW8024R at both ends: 54 against 58 on high, 46 against 52 on low.
At 10,000 to 12,000 BTU the picture changes. The LW1022IVSM lists 58 on high, the same as the rotary LW1025RSMX, and the 12,000 BTU inverters list 58 against 55 for the rotary LW1224RSMX. The inverters pull ahead again on low, 46 to 50 against 52 or 53, and only they list a sleep figure.
LG credits the difference to hardware. The LW8022IVSM page says its 44dB comes "thanks to LG’s unique BLDC Motor and DUAL Inverter Compressor™". An inverter can slow its compressor once the room is cool, so it spends more of the night near its low and sleep figures.
What does sleep mode do on an LG air conditioner?
LG's sleep mode is a timer that holds noise down and raises the set temperature; LG does not describe it as a separate fan speed. The owner's manuals for the 8,000 to 12,000 BTU inverters word it identically.
In LG's words, sleep "keeps operating noise to a minimum and turns the air conditioner off after a set time". That timer runs anywhere from one hour to twelve, and within the first hour the target climbs twice: it "increases by 2 °F after 30 minutes and additional 2 °F after another 30 minutes", a rise of 4 °F at most.
The same manuals make Energy Saver the default "each time the unit is switched on". In that mode the compressor and fan stop at the set temperature, and "Approximately every 3 minutes the fan turns on". A fan that restarts every few minutes can disturb a light sleeper more than a steady low setting, so switch to Cool and pick the fan speed yourself.
Why is my LG air conditioner making noise?
LG's manuals list five sounds they call normal and blame rattling on the installation. The window unit manuals name a "High Pitched Chatter" from "Today's high efficiency compressors", rushing air at the front, gurgling or hissing refrigerant, and "Pinging or Swishing" from water droplets on the condenser.
Vibration is the one LG treats as fixable: "Unit may vibrate and make noise because of poor wall or window construction or incorrect installation." The installation steps open with "To prevent vibration and noise, make sure the unit is installed securely and firmly."
For fan noise, the troubleshooting table answers with one line: "This is normal. If too loud, set to lower FAN Setting."
Does LG make a U-shaped window air conditioner?
No. LG's US site on October 21, 2026 held 77 current window unit pages, every one a standard box that fills the window opening. LG has no U-shaped or saddle design that lets the sash close through the middle.
Even LG's quietest window units, the DUAL Inverter models, mount the conventional way, with the whole cabinet resting on the sill. For designs that split the cabinet either side of the glass, see the U-shaped window AC guide and Midea's U range.
