Midea prints a noise figure on the product page of most of the air conditioners it sells on its US site, and the figure is nearly always the same kind: "as low as" a number, with no fan speed, mode, distance or test standard attached. On October 3, 2026, that came to 16 current window and portable models with a figure, and they fall into three groups that should only be compared within themselves: the U-shaped window units, two standard window units with heat, and the Duo portables.
This page lists all 16, quietest first inside each group, with Midea's own price and stock on the day we checked. To see how Midea's figures sit beside brands that publish every fan speed, see our quietest window air conditioners guide. We do not rank other brands here.
Our picks are listed above, with full specifications for each.
How Midea rates noise
Midea's pattern is one line per model. The U-shaped units all say "Ultra-quiet window AC unit effectively minimizes compressor noise, as low as 32 dBA." The heat and cool window units say "Ultra-quiet performance as low as 45 dBA." The Duo portables say "Ultra-quiet performance as low as 42 dBA." One page, the 12,000 BTU heat and cool unit, writes it "as low as 45 dbA" in the bullet list and "45 dBA" lower down, and we read both as A-weighted.
What Midea never prints is the condition. There is no fan speed, no mode, no distance and no standard, and the "Full specifications" table on every page has rows for room size, dimensions, weight and warranty but none for noise. The two user manuals Midea hosts, for the MAW08U1QWT and the MAP12S1TBL, contain no decibel figure either. So a Midea figure tells you the quietest the unit claims to get, and nothing about full speed. Our guide to comparing decibel ratings across brands explains why a single "as low as" number cannot be set against another maker's full table.
Midea adds a multiplier to most pages: "12X Quieter than traditional air conditioning units." on the older U models, "10X Quieter" on the newer ones, "9X Quieter Than Traditional AC Units" on the SmartCool Inverter, and "7X Quieter Compared to Traditional ACs" on the Inverter Plus. No baseline unit or method is named for any of them, and we have not checked them.
Every U-shaped Midea, as low as 32 dBA
Ten U-shaped models carry the 32 dBA line. Within the group the figure is identical, so the list is by size, then by version. Prices are Midea's own on October 3, 2026, and "out of stock" means the page showed a Notify Me button instead of Add to cart.
- 8,000 BTU, 350 sq ft: MAW08U1QWT, 3 year warranty, $379.99, in stock. MAW08V1QWT, 1 year, $399.99, in stock. MAW08U2QWT, 1 year, $350.00, out of stock.
- 10,000 BTU, 450 sq ft: MAW10V1QWT, 1 year, $449.99, in stock. MAW10U1QWT, 3 years, $419.99, out of stock. MAW10U2QWT, 3 years, $449.97, out of stock.
- 12,000 BTU, 550 sq ft: MAW12V1QWT, 1 year, $509.99, in stock. MAW12U1QWT, 3 years, $479.99, out of stock. MAW12U2QWT, 3 years, $499.99, out of stock. MAW12AV1QWT-C, 1 year, $389.00, in stock, with a caveat: the page that carries the 32 dBA line is marked "This product is no longer available", and the newer page for the same model number says only "Ultra Quiet: Minimal Noise for Maximum Comfort."
One more U has no figure. The 6,000 BTU MAW06U1QWT, marked "New" and listed at $349.99 out of stock, says "Ultra Quiet: Minimal Noise for Maximum Comfort." and nothing in decibels. Two of the U2 page titles say "for spaces up to 350 sq. ft." while their spec tables say 450 and 550, and we go by the table.
Standard window units with heat, as low as 45 dBA
Midea's two inverter window units with "supplemental heat for spring and fall" are standard shaped, with the whole cabinet in the window opening. Both list 45 dBA, with no speed named.
- 8,000 BTU, 350 sq ft: MAW08HV1CWT, 1 year, $379.00, in stock.
- 12,000 BTU, 550 sq ft: MAW12HV1CWT, 1 year, $425.00, in stock.
These are the only Midea window units outside the U range with a published figure, and they are the lowest priced Midea air conditioners with any figure at all.
The Duo portables, as low as 42 dBA
All four current Duo models list "Ultra-quiet performance as low as 42 dBA." Our quietest portable air conditioners guide ranks the Duo against portables from other brands, and sets Midea's figure beside the makers that publish every speed.
- 10,000 BTU, 450 sq ft: MAP12S1TGR-S (gray), 2 year warranty, $469.99, in stock. MAP12S1TBL (black), 1 year, $498.79, in stock.
- 12,000 BTU, 550 sq ft: MAP14S1TBL, 1 year, $659.99, out of stock. MAP14HS1TBL with heat, 1 year, $699.99, out of stock.
The MAP14S1TBL has a wrinkle. Its product page says 42 dBA, but the product description in Midea's own online store database, which feeds the price on that page, says "ultra-quiet performance with a noise level as low as 44dB". Midea publishes two lowest figures for one model, and we list both. The gray and black 10,000 BTU Duos also disagree on weight, 55.12 lbs against 72.75 lbs in their spec tables, so check the exact model number before you lift one.
Midea sells several window units with quiet language and no number. The SmartCool Inverter MAW08V1YWT-S and MAW12V1YWT-S say "9X Quieter Than Traditional AC Units" and "Enjoy ultra-quiet performance without sacrificing cooling power." The Inverter Plus range, MAW10RV1CWT through MAW24RV1CWT, says "7X Quieter Compared to Traditional ACs" and "Inverter Plus Technology Automatically Adjusts Cooling for Quiet, Consistent, and Energy Efficient Performance". The MAW08S1VWWT-T says "Ultra-Quiet Operation: Powerful performance without unwanted noise." The ComfortSense, SmartCool, EasyCool and mechanical 5,000 BTU window units, and the non-Duo portables, say nothing about noise at all. None of these can be ranked, so none appears above.
The U-shape in Midea's words
Midea's explanation of the design is short. On every U page: "The innovative design of this U-shaped AC allows you to freely open and close your window." The 6,000 BTU page calls it an "Exclusive U-Shaped Design for Window Freedom." The pages add "Includes a quick-snap bracket and adjustable window panels for easy installation." and "Long-distance Airflow up to 20 feet".
The manual fills in what the page leaves out. The window sash closes into a slot in the middle of the unit, and the troubleshooting table has an entry for when the "Window does not insert into the U-shaped slot." The unit must sit on its included support bracket, and the manual notes that the "Midea U bracket works on walls with thickness 3 to 10.5 inches". The bracket is set with a level, "so that it is level or tilted 1/4 bubble downward and towards the outside". Midea does not say in its own words that the U-shape is why the figure is 32 dBA; the noise line credits the compressor, "effectively minimizes compressor noise". Our window guide covers what ENERGY STAR says about U-shaped and saddle designs in general, and our guide to the quietest U-shaped and saddle window air conditioners sets the Midea U beside the Frigidaire, GE Profile and Soleus Air units, with the window and wall each one needs.
Inverter claims in Midea's words
Every Midea model with a figure is an inverter. The U pages say "Variable Speed Inverter Technology is up to 45% more energy efficient" on the U1 and most U2 models, and "up to 35% more energy efficient" on the V1 models. The heat and cool units say "up to 35% energy savings compared to the US federal standard" for the 8,000 BTU and "Up to 25% energy savings compared to U.S. federal standard" for the 12,000 BTU. The Duo says "Variable speed inverter technology provides over 40% energy savings compared to the US federal standard."
The clearest description of what the inverter does for noise is on the SmartCool Inverter page, in Midea's FAQ: "Inverter window air conditioners are generally quieter than standard units because the compressor runs at lower speeds once the desired temperature is reached. This helps reduce noise levels during operation." The same page describes the compressor as one that "adjusts output based on cooling needs. Instead of constantly turning on and off like traditional units, it maintains a steady temperature with more efficient operation." That is Midea's general claim about the technology; it attaches no figure to it.
U1, U2 and V1: what changes and what does not
Three versions of the Midea U are on sale at once, and the noise line does not change between them. Neither do the cabinet dimensions: every U lists 19.17 inches wide, 13.46 inches high and 21.97 inches deep. What changes is the warranty row, the multiplier and the efficiency claim. The U1 models list 3 years, "12X Quieter" and "up to 45%". The 10,000 and 12,000 BTU U2 models list the same three things, while the 8,000 BTU U2 lists 1 year, "10X" and "35%". The V1 models, the ones in stock, list 1 year, "10X Quieter" and "up to 35%". Midea does not say what changed inside the box, so we do not credit the versions with any difference in noise.
What 32, 42 and 45 dBA mean in a room
The decibel scale is logarithmic, so roughly every 10 dBA sounds twice as loud, and our decibel chart puts Midea's three numbers next to everyday sounds. The caution is that all three are lowest-setting claims under conditions Midea does not state, so even the 13 dBA gap between a U at 32 and a heat and cool unit at 45 is only as reliable as Midea's unstated test. Where other makers publish every speed, the high setting is typically 10 to 14 dBA above the lowest figure on the same sheet, and nothing on Midea's pages tells you whether the U follows that pattern. Treat the figures as Midea's floor, and read the quietest window AC for a bedroom guide for how a unit behaves at the setting you will actually sleep on.
Fan speeds, sleep mode and installation
The U manual lists a Fan button that selects "the Fan Speed in four steps - Auto, Low, Med or High", a FlashCool mode in which "the air conditioner will run at the highest fan speed and compressor speed" and the fan "cannot be adjusted", and a Sleep function that raises the set temperature by 2 F after 30 minutes. For noise, the troubleshooting table's advice is the one every maker gives: "Air movement sound. This is normal. If too loud, set to a slower FAN setting." Vibration is blamed on "poor wall or window construction or incorrect installation", and the manual warns of "A 30 second high pitched noise" at compressor start that it calls normal. The Duo manual asks for an even surface "to minimize noise and vibration" and says "Do not add extension to the exhaust hose(s)".
Stock and price on the day we checked
On October 3, 2026, Midea's site showed Add to cart on the MAW08U1QWT, all three V1 U models, the MAW12AV1QWT-C, both heat and cool units and both 10,000 BTU Duos. Every U2 model, the 10,000 and 12,000 BTU U1 models and both 12,000 BTU Duos showed Notify Me. Midea's prices for models with a figure ran from $350.00 for the out of stock MAW08U2QWT to $699.99 for the Duo with heat. Check the exact model number and the price on the day you buy, since the three U versions look alike and carry different warranties.
We did not measure any of these air conditioners. Every figure is Midea's own, quoted as published on its US product pages and manuals on October 3, 2026, and Midea does not say which fan speed, mode, distance or test standard any of its figures describes.
