Search for Levoit humidifier decibels and most of Levoit's product pages give you a number. What they do not make plain is that the numbers describe different things: some name a setting, two name a distance, and most name nothing. That changes how you should read them.
We read the US product page and, where Levoit posts one, the user manual for every humidifier in Levoit's US store. Sixteen current models carry a noise figure. This page lists all of them, explains what Levoit's labels mean, and ranks each model only against others whose figure describes the same setting.
Our picks are listed above, with full specifications for each.
Levoit's spec tables use a line called "Noise Level". The figures are in dB, never dB(A), and no page or manual names a test standard. Four kinds of figure appear:
- A figure tied to a named setting. The NeoClassic 450 page says "21dB ultra-quiet Sleep Mode, zero display lights". The OasisMist 450S page gives "Lowest: under 26dB (Low Cool Mist)" and "Highest: under 41dB (High Warm Mist)". The Classic 160 page gives "Max Mist Level: under 28dB".
- A range with a distance. The Superior Studio and Superior Studio Smart list "19-45dB" with the note "Noise test conditions: 1.5m away from humidifier". Neither end is tied to a fan speed.
- A range with nothing else. The Superior 6000S lists "28-45dB".
- A single figure with nothing else. The Dual 150, for example, gives under 28dB, and the Classic 300S 30dB or less.
Most figures carry a sign in front: Levoit prints a less-than sign on some and a less-than-or-equal sign on others. Both read as a ceiling. We write "under" for the first and "or less" for the second.
We rank only within a group that shares a label: Sleep Mode against Sleep Mode, Low Cool Mist against Low Cool Mist, High Warm Mist against High Warm Mist. A figure for the quietest setting and one for the loudest describe different things, and a figure with no setting cannot be placed against either.

Two current models give no figure: the LV600HH warm and cool mist model, whose page and manual list none, and the NeoClassic 450S, whose page text gives none. Levoit's Sprout Evaporative Humidifier page is still live but showed sold out, and the model is no longer in Levoit's humidifier collection, so we do not rank it. Its documents also disagree: the product page lists "Sleep Fan Mode: under 20dB", the manual "Sleep Fan Mode: under 26dB", both at 1.5 m.
What changes noise between Levoit's series
Mist against fan. The Classic, Dual, OasisMist, LV600 and NeoClassic models are ultrasonic: no fan to speak of, so the sound is mostly water. The Superior models are evaporative, with a fan pushing air through a wet wick, so their noise climbs with fan speed. That is why the two evaporative ranges top out at 45dB while most mist figures sit under 30dB.
Warm mist. On the three warm mist models with figures, warm mist is the loudest setting. The LV600S tops out 12 dB above its Low Cool Mist figure, and the OasisMist models 15 dB above. The manuals also warn that "the heating element may make a gurgling noise if the water level is low."
Size. Bigger tanks do not mean louder figures here. The 10 L OasisMist 1000S lists the same under 28dB as the 3 L Dual 150. What changes with size is room rating, and a unit rated well above your room can sit on a lower setting.
What the gaps mean
Decibels are logarithmic. Roughly every 10 dB sounds about twice as loud, so the step from under 26dB on Low Cool Mist to under 41dB on High Warm Mist on the same OasisMist is large: the top setting may sound close to three times as loud. A gap of 1 or 2 dB between two Levoit models is small, and since most figures are ceilings with no test standard, it may be no gap at all. Our decibel chart sets published appliance figures beside everyday sounds.
Levoit's quiet features, by their real names
Sleep Mode. The name is the same across the range, but what it does is not. On the OasisMist 450S and 600S, the manual says it "changes the humidifier's mist setting to low and turns off the display lights", and "automatically turns off warm mist to reduce noise levels." The OasisMist 1000S manual gives the same low mist and display off. On the Superior Studio Smart and 6000S, it "changes the humidifier's fan speed setting to low and turns off the display." On the LV600S, it switches to "an automatic mode" that holds 50 to 60 percent humidity, and on the Classic 300S to Auto Mode, turning off the display and night light. An automatic mode can start and stop through the night, so the sound is less steady.
Noise Silencer. The Classic 160, Classic 100, Classic 300S, Dual 150, Dual 200S, LV600S, OasisMist 450S and OasisMist 600S manuals list a part called the noise silencer in the tank. They tell you to remove and soak it when descaling, and their reassembly steps put it back in the tank, so do not leave it out.
Muffler Technology. The Dual 200S page says "A hydraulic fan reduces the sounds of friction and water droplets, keeping noise levels as low as 28dB."
Display off. On several models, including the OasisMist 450S, OasisMist 1000S and Classic 300S, the manual says to press and hold a button for 3 seconds to turn the display off. The NeoClassic 450 promises "zero display lights" in Sleep Mode.
Dry Mode. On the Superior Studio Smart, Automatic Dry Mode runs the fan after the unit runs out of water or is turned off, to dry the wick: 140 minutes on low, 1 hour on medium or 40 minutes on high. If you switch it off at bedtime, the fan may keep going.
Keeping a Levoit humidifier quiet
Levoit's manuals give the same troubleshooting steps across models for "a loud or unusual noise": make sure the water tank is properly in place, set the mist level lower, and empty the base chamber, then refill the tank, not the base. The LV600HH manual adds: place it on a flat, level surface and keep at least 2 US cups of water in the tank. Our bedroom humidifier guide covers warm mist at night in more detail, and our nursery humidifier guide ranks by the overnight setting and says which displays go fully dark.
The Classic 160 page says under 28dB at Max Mist Level, "as low as 26dB" elsewhere on the same page, and "26-28dB" in its FAQ, while the manual gives only under 28dB. The LV600S page lists no noise figure at all, though its manual does. The Sprout page and manual differ by 6 dB on Sleep Fan Mode. We quote what each source says and give no award on a figure that a second Levoit source contradicts.
How Levoit compares
This page ranks Levoit models only against each other. For how they sit among other brands on each maker's own figures, see our guide to the quietest humidifiers. For a big room, our large-room humidifier guide sets the LV600S and Superior 6000S beside Venta and Dreo. Since Levoit, like most makers, names no test standard, read why decibel ratings rarely compare across brands before treating a small gap as real. Levoit labels its purifier figures differently again; our Levoit air purifier decibels page covers those.
How we chose
We read Levoit's US humidifier collection and opened the product page for every humidifier in it, and the US user manual wherever Levoit links one. We recorded each noise figure in Levoit's words, with the setting or distance Levoit ties it to, and noted where a page and its manual disagree. We grouped figures by the setting they name and ranked only within a group. Prices are Levoit's US prices on October 5, 2026.
We did not measure any of these humidifiers. Every figure here is Levoit's own, from its product pages and manuals, and Levoit names no test standard for any of them and a distance for only two. Your room, your water and where you put the unit will change what you hear.
