Buying Guide

Pioneer, a brand of Parker Davis HVAC International in Miami that sells direct through pioneerminisplit.com, prints a noise figure on the product page of nearly every ductless system it sells: an indoor figure for each of five fan speeds and one outdoor figure. The submittal sheets repeat them. That makes its line easy to rank within itself, as long as size, unit type and fan speed are kept together.

Below is every current system on Pioneer's store with a published figure, grouped so that only like is compared with like. To see how Pioneer sits against other makers, see our quietest mini-splits guide; we do not rank other brands here.

Our picks are listed above, with full specifications for each.

How Pioneer rates noise

Each product page has an indoor line, "Sound Level (Turbo/Hi/Med/Lo/Mute)", followed by five figures in dB(A), and an outdoor line, "Sound Level", with one figure. The submittal sheets print the same numbers as "Sound Level (dBA)", with each speed named, for example "42 (Turbo) / 39 (Hi) / 33 (Med) / 29 (Lo) / 26 (Mute)". Pioneer prints no single noise range on these pages, so every figure here is quoted for a named speed.

What Pioneer does not print is how it measured: no distance, no standard, no room type and no mode. Its brochures give the rating conditions for capacity, "80°F-DB/67°F-WB Indoor and 95°F Outdoor" for cooling, but say nothing about sound. So we treat every figure as mode not stated. For why that matters when you line up brands, see comparing decibel ratings.

Mute is the speed buyers sleep on. The manual says: "When the system is muted, the remote controller will display the auto fan speed and the indoor unit will operate at its lowest fan speed in order to minimize operation noise." Pressing Fan, Turbo or Sleep cancels it, and "The Mute feature cannot be activated when the system is in Dry mode."

Which series are current

Pioneer's store sells five wall series, each with its own model code:

  • Diamante Essenza 20 SEER2 (WYT...GLUI20RL, ALUI20RL for 115V): the entry line, R32, heating "As low as -4°F".
  • Diamante Essenza 17 SEER2 (WYT...UI17RL): a cheaper R-32 line at slightly lower capacities, heating "As low as 5°F".
  • Diamante Pro (WYT...SI20RL): R454b, heating "As low as -4°F".
  • Quantum Ultra (WYT...SI24RL): R454b, "Ultra Low Ambient Range Operation (As low as -13°F in Heating".
  • Quantum Hyperformance (WYT...SI25RH): R454b, "Extreme Climate Operation (As low as -22°F in Heating".

There is also the Quantum Fresh, a 12,000 BTU wall unit with a "Fresh Air Infusion System" that brings in outdoor air, plus Quantum Ultra cassettes, floor and ceiling units, consoles, ducted units and multi-zone outdoor units. Older WYS, WYT FI19 and Diamante Ultra FI22 systems still appear on the store but were sold out when we checked; if a seller offers one, its own sheet applies, and we leave them out of the rankings.

Every 9,000 BTU wall unit, quietest first

All five series are rated 9,000 BTU/h in cooling at this size. Figures are in dB(A).

  • Mute: Hyperformance (WYT009GLSI25RH) 26; Essenza 230V (WYT009GLUI20RL), Essenza 115V (WYT009ALUI20RL) and Pro 115V (WYT009ALSI20RL) 28; Pro 230V (WYT009GLSI20RL) 29; Quantum Ultra 230V and 115V (WYT009GLSI24RL, WYT009ALSI24RL) 30.
  • Lo: Hyperformance 29; Essenza (both) and Pro 115V 30; Pro 230V and Quantum Ultra (both) 31.
  • Med: Hyperformance and Quantum Ultra 33; Essenza 34; Pro 115V 35; Pro 230V 36.
  • Hi: Essenza and Hyperformance 39; Quantum Ultra and Pro 115V 40; Pro 230V 41.
  • Turbo: Essenza, Hyperformance and Pro 115V 42; Quantum Ultra and Pro 230V 43.

The whole spread on Mute is four dB(A), so at this size the series matters less than the heating range and the outdoor figure.

Every 12,000 BTU wall unit, quietest first

These are all rated 12,000 BTU/h in cooling.

  • Mute: Essenza 230V and 115V (WYT012GLUI20RL, WYT012ALUI20RL) and Pro 230V and 115V (WYT012GLSI20RL, WYT012ALSI20RL) 28; Quantum Ultra 230V and 115V (WYT012GLSI24RL, WYT012ALSI24RL), Hyperformance (WYT012GLSI25RH) and Quantum Fresh (WYT012GLUI25FV) 30.
  • Lo: Essenza and Pro 30; Quantum Ultra, Hyperformance and Quantum Fresh 32.
  • Med: Essenza and Pro 35; Quantum Ultra and Hyperformance 36; Quantum Fresh 37.
  • Hi: Essenza and Pro 42; Quantum Fresh 43; Quantum Ultra and Hyperformance 44.
  • Turbo: Quantum Fresh 44; Essenza and Pro 45; Quantum Ultra and Hyperformance 46.

The Essenza 17 SEER2 at this size is rated 11,500 BTU/h, so we list it apart: the 230V WYT012GLUI17RL lists "45 / 42 / 39 / 35 / 33" and the 115V WYT012ALUI17RL "43 / 40 / 36 / 33 / 29". Our bedroom mini-split guide explains why the bottom two speeds matter most at night.

18,000 and 24,000 BTU wall units

18,000 BTU, Turbo / Hi / Med / Lo / Mute: Essenza (WYT018GLUI20RL) "49 / 46 / 40 / 34 / 32"; Pro (WYT018GLSI20RL) "49 / 47 / 42 / 37 / 32"; Hyperformance (WYT018GLSI25RH) "48 / 45 / 40 / 37 / 34". The Quantum Ultra WYT018GLSI24RL lists "50 / 47 / 43 / 38 / 34" but was sold out. The Essenza 17 SEER2 at this size, WYT018GLUI17RL, is rated 17,000 BTU/h and lists "49 / 45 / 40 / 34 / 32".

24,000 BTU: Hyperformance (WYT024GLSI25RH) "49 / 47 / 42 / 37 / 32"; Essenza (WYT024GLUI20RL) "51 / 49 / 43 / 37 / 34"; Pro (WYT024GLSI20RL) "52 / 50 / 44 / 38 / 36". Two systems with a 24 in the model number are rated 23,000 BTU/h: the Quantum Ultra WYT024GLSI24RL, "50 / 47 / 43 / 38 / 34", and the Essenza 17 SEER2 WYT024GLUI17RL, "50 / 48 / 46 / 40 / 37". Between those two, the Quantum Ultra lists less at every speed but Turbo, where they tie.

Larger: the Essenza WYT030GLUI20RL (32,000 BTU/h) and Pro WYT030GLSI20RL (31,500 BTU/h) both list "52 / 49 / 43 / 38 / 36"; the 36,000 BTU versions were sold out.

Cassettes, floor, console and ducted units

These are ranked only within their own type.

One-way cassette (CYK), Turbo / Hi / Med / Lo / Mute: 9,000 BTU "46 / 38 / 34 / 24 / 22"; 12,000 "47 / 43 / 38 / 26 / 22"; 18,000 "48 / 44 / 41 / 30 / 24".

8-way cassette (CYT): CYT009GLSI24RL (9,500 BTU/h) "43 / 40 / 33 / 31 / 30"; CYT012GLSI24RL (12,000) "46 / 44 / 36 / 32 / 30"; CYT018GLSI24RL (16,000) "50 / 47 / 43 / 38 / 34". At 12,000 BTU the one-way cassette is lower on Mute, Lo and Hi, the 8-way on Turbo and Med.

4-way cassette (CYB): 36,000 BTU "54 / 52 / 47 / 40 / 36"; 48,000 "56 / 52 / 50 / 42 / 38".

Floor, ceiling or low wall (UYT, UYB): UYT018GLSI24RL "50 / 46 / 44 / 40 / 36"; UYT024GLSI24RL (22,200 BTU/h) "53 / 52 / 48 / 44 / 40"; UYB048GMSI20RL "55 / 53 / 49 / 39 / 34".

Console and ducted: here Pioneer prints three or four figures under the five-speed header, so we cannot tell which speeds they belong to and do not rank them. The FYB012GMSI24RL console lists "39 / 34.5 / 29.5 dB(A)" and the FYB018GMSI24RL "41.5 / 39 / 28.5". The RYT ducted units list "43 / 41 / 39" at 9,500 and 11,000 BTU/h, "41 / 38 / 36" at 17,000 and "41 / 38 / 34" at 22,000; the RYB slim ducts list "45 / 39.5 / 33 / 30" at 36,000 and "51 / 46 / 42 / 40" at 48,000. What reaches the room from a ducted unit also depends on the ductwork.

Every single-zone outdoor unit, quietest first

These are the figures your neighbors hear. Compare them only with each other.

  • 9,000 BTU wall systems: Quantum Ultra 230V and 115V 50; Essenza 230V and 115V 53; Pro 230V and 115V 54; Hyperformance 55.
  • 12,000 BTU wall systems: Quantum Ultra 230V and 115V 52; Quantum Fresh 53; Essenza and Pro, both voltages, 55; Hyperformance 57.
  • 18,000 BTU wall systems: Quantum Ultra (sold out) 53; Essenza and Pro 55; Hyperformance 58.
  • 24,000 BTU wall systems: Pro 58; Essenza 60; Hyperformance 61.
  • Essenza 17 SEER2: 11,500 BTU 115V 53, 230V 55; 23,000 BTU 56; 17,000 BTU 57. Their capacities differ from the groups above, so they are not ranked against them.

By type and size, not ranked across sizes: one-way cassettes 54 at 9,000 and 12,000 BTU and 58 at 18,000; 8-way cassettes 50 at 9,500 BTU, 52 at 12,000 and 53 at 16,000; RYT ducted 50, 52, 53 and 54 at 9,500, 11,000, 17,000 and 22,000 BTU; floor-ceiling 53 at 18,000 and 54 at 22,200; consoles 55 at 12,000 and 57 at 16,000; the 23,000 BTU Quantum Ultra wall system 54; the 30,000 BTU class Essenza and Pro, the 36,000 BTU ducted and the 4-way cassette 63; the 48,000 BTU units 64.

The quietest indoor series is often the loudest outside: the Hyperformance leads indoors at 9,000 and 24,000 BTU and trails outdoors at every size.

Multi-zone outdoor units and heads

Pioneer's current Quantum Ultra multi-zone outdoor units list 58 dB(A) for 2 zones (YN020GLSI24M2G), 62 for 3 (YN030GLSI24M3G), 65 for 4 and 5 (YN040GLSI24M4G, YN050GLSI24M5G) and 69 for 6 (YN060GLSI24M6G). The wall heads sold for them, WT009GLSI24HLG, WT012GLSI24HLG and WT024GLSI24HLG, list the same five figures as the single-zone Quantum Ultra heads, as do the CT cassette and UT floor-ceiling heads. Two older Quantum wall heads still in stock, WS009GMFI22HLE and WS012GMFI22HLE, list only "Hi/Lo": 39 / 24.5 and 39 / 25 dB(A). Those labels differ, so we do not rank them against Mute.

What changes the noise between models

Size, above all. On Mute, wall units go from 26 to 30 dB(A) at 9,000 BTU to 32 to 36 at 24,000 and 36 at 30,000. Outdoors, the Essenza goes from 53 at 9,000 BTU to 63 at 32,000. If a smaller head will do the room, it will be quieter.

Series, less than you would think. The cheapest series, Essenza and Pro, are the lowest on Mute and Lo at 12,000 BTU. The Quantum Ultra wall systems list the lowest outdoor figure at every size they come in. The Hyperformance is lowest indoors at 9,000 and 24,000 BTU.

Heating. Pioneer's manual says the fan speed cannot be set by hand in heating, and that defrost lasts "between 2 and 10 minutes" with the indoor fan stopped. A Mute setting chosen in summer may not hold in winter. For heads ranked by heating-mode figures from makers that print them, see our cold-climate mini-split guide.

Pioneer's quiet claims, in its words

Submittal sheets list "Whisper-Quiet Operation" among the features. The Quantum Ultra brochure lists a "Whisper Quiet Indoor Motor with Ball Bearings", a "Dynamically Balanced Ultra Quiet Cross-Flow Blower", "Internal Noise and Vibration Isolation" and "High Output & Quiet Variable Speed Compressors". The installation manual adds advice that matters as much as any figure: "If allowed, install the wall-mounted unit with rubber gaskets to reduce vibration and noise", and do not put the outdoor unit near "places where noise from the unit will disturb others."

What 22 to 69 dB(A) means at home

Every 10 dB(A) sounds roughly twice as loud, so a head on Mute at 28 should sound about half as loud as the same head on Med at 38, if the conditions match. Our decibel chart puts these figures next to everyday sounds. For how a maker that states its test distance reports the same kind of figure, see our Daikin mini-split decibels page.

Price and warranty

Pioneer sells direct. Its store showed a list price and a lower sale price on every system; the picks above use the list price and quote the sale price we saw on October 5, 2026. These are not plug-together kits: the manual says "Qualified and well-trained personnel must complete the installation, repair, servicing, and maintenance of the unit." The Quantum Ultra and Hyperformance submittals offer up to 10 years on the compressor and 7 on parts if "installed within 90 days by a registered technician"; the Essenza submittal offers up to 5 years each if registered, and "only 1-year parts/compressor warranty" if not.

We did not measure any of these units. Every figure is Pioneer's own, quoted from its product pages, submittal sheets and manuals with the fan speed it names. Pioneer states no distance, standard or mode for any of them, and real rooms with echoes and a wall behind the head will read higher than a test rig.

Common questions

How loud is a Pioneer mini-split in decibels?

By Pioneer's own product pages, its current wall units list 26 to 36 dB(A) on Mute, the lowest fan speed, and 42 to 52 dB(A) on Turbo, the highest. The one-way ceiling cassettes go down to 22 dB(A) on Mute. Its single-zone outdoor units list 50 to 64 dB(A), and its multi-zone outdoor units 58 to 69. Pioneer does not say at what distance or in which mode it measured.

Which Pioneer mini-split is the quietest?

Among wall units, the Quantum Hyperformance WYT009GLSI25RH, at 26 dB(A) on Mute and 29 on Lo. Among all indoor units, the one-way cassettes CYK009GMSI24RL and CYK012GMSI24RL, at 22 dB(A) on Mute. Outdoors, the Quantum Ultra 9,000 BTU systems, at 50 dB(A). Indoor and outdoor figures are separate measurements and should not be added or compared.

What do Turbo, Hi, Med, Lo and Mute mean on a Pioneer?

They are fan speeds. Pioneer's remote cycles "Auto > Mute > Low > Low-Mid > Mid > Mid-High > High > Turbo", and its pages print a figure for five of them. Of Mute, the manual says "the indoor unit will operate at its lowest fan speed in order to minimize operation noise." Pressing Fan, Turbo or Sleep cancels Mute, and it cannot be used in Dry mode.

Does a Pioneer stay on Mute when it is heating?

Not reliably. Pioneer's manuals say that in Heating mode, "Unlike in Cooling mode, the fan speed cannot be set manually. Instead, the fan speed adjusts automatically in proportion to the temperature of the heat exchanger." The unit also defrosts periodically for 2 to 10 minutes, with the indoor fan stopped.

Is a 115V Pioneer louder than a 230V one?

Not on Pioneer's figures. The 115V and 230V versions of the Diamante Essenza 12k, Diamante Pro 12k and Quantum Ultra 9k and 12k list the same indoor and outdoor figures. The Diamante Pro 9k 115V lists one dB(A) less than its 230V twin at every speed. The 115V Essenza 17 SEER2 lists less than its 230V twin at every speed.

How loud are Pioneer multi-zone outdoor units?

Pioneer lists 58 dB(A) for the 2-zone YN020GLSI24M2G, 62 for the 3-zone YN030GLSI24M3G, 65 for the 4-zone YN040GLSI24M4G and the 5-zone YN050GLSI24M5G, and 69 for the 6-zone YN060GLSI24M6G. The indoor heads list the same figures as the matching single-zone Quantum Ultra heads.

Is a Pioneer quieter than other brands?

We do not rank other brands on this page. Pioneer prints a figure for every speed but gives no distance, standard or mode, so its figures are hard to line up against makers that do. Our quietest mini-splits guide compares the best of each brand.

I founded QuietSpecs after running a product review blog, and I built it around the spec that is hardest to pin down. With noise, makers tend to quote the quietest setting they can find, or nothing at all. So I read the spec sheets, manuals and certification directories, quote each figure with the setting it describes, and say so plainly when a maker publishes none. I do not test products or measure decibels, and no brand pays for a place in a guide.
