Search for Vornado fan decibels and you will find a number on almost every page Vornado runs. The brand prints a "Sound (dBA)" row in the specification table of nearly every fan and circulator it sells, and on most of them it gives one figure per speed. On October 3, 2026, that came to 99 current models with a figure, out of 137 distinct fans and circulators listed at a real price on vornado.com (139 listings, two of them single-colour duplicates of the Flippi V6).
This page lists all 99, grouped the way Vornado tags them (personal, small, medium, large, pedestal, tower, box and window) and sorted quietest first within each group by the lowest figure in the row. It explains how to read Vornado's unlabeled slash lists, what the brand means by Vortex Action and Energy Smart, and where its marketing copy disagrees with its own tables. We do not rank other brands here. For how Vornado sits beside them, see our quietest box fans guide, and the desk, pedestal and tower guides linked below.
Our picks are listed above, with full specifications for each.
How to read a Vornado Sound (dBA) row
Every figure on this page comes from the "Sound (dBA)" row of a vornado.com specification table, and Vornado formats that row one way: figures separated by slashes, one per speed, with no labels. The 660 reads "59/53/47/43". The 683DC, a variable-speed DC model, reads "59/40". Vornado never says which end is high and which is low, never states a measuring distance, and never names a test standard.
We can still put the figures in order, because on nearly every page the "Watts" and "Air Volume (CFM)" rows run highest first in the same slash order. The 753 lists Watts 67/56/44 and CFM 1864/1311/964 beside Sound 58/47/39, so the 39 is the low speed. That is an inference from Vornado's layout, not a Vornado label, and we say so. One page breaks the pattern: the 753 OSC lists Sound 35/44/57 beside Watts 75/60/51, so its two rows run in opposite directions and we cannot say which speed the 35 belongs to. Another gives a bound instead of a figure: the 133DC's row reads 48, a slash, and then a less-than sign followed by 30, which we read as under 30 dBA at the bottom of its dial. We list it but do not rank it.
A few of Vornado's newest DC models print a single figure instead, such as 30 for the EOS 9 and 32 for the Vora 8. Those pages often add a line in the feature text, "Quiet operation of 32dB on Low", which is the only place Vornado ties a number to a speed. We keep single figures in their own group.
Because every row is in dBA with no distance, we rank only like against like: the lowest figure in a row against other lowest figures, the highest against other highest, and single figures against single figures. We never rank a Vornado figure against another brand's. Our explainer on why decibel ratings rarely compare across brands covers the reasons.

Box and window fans
Vornado's box fans: the Model 80X lists 28/61 dBA for $99.99 and the Model 80 a single 40 dBA, speed not stated, for $79.99. The Model 810 has no figure. Among window fans, the Transom lists 49/48/45/43 dBA, the Transom AE 50/48/46/43, the Portal 51/47/43 and the Profile 52/46/43, all with a bottom figure of 43.
Top of the range, by group
The lowest figure is the one Vornado's buyers look for, but the top figure tells you how far the noise climbs on a hot afternoon. Within each group, the lowest top figures are: the 133 at 44 among personal fans, the Pivot 3U and Pivot 3S at 47 among small circulators, the VFAN Jr. at 51 among medium, the 279TR at 56 among large, the 602 at 55 among pedestals, and the Duo at 46 among towers. The DC circulators mostly top out from 58 to 66, higher than their AC siblings, which is the trade for a dial that goes lower.
Vortex Action, in Vornado's words
Vornado calls its products circulators rather than fans, and the 660 page explains why: "Unlike typical fans, a Vornado creates whole room circulation using an airflow phenomenon called 'Vortex Action.' An inlet guide cone directs air to the most efficient portion of the blades. In turn, the wide, heavily contoured blades churn the air into motion. The air then travels through a duct which sculpts the air into a column shape. As the air exits the circulator, Vornado's AirTensity Grille straightens the airflow to ensure the air travels long distances." (Vornado writes AirTensity with a trademark symbol.)
That is a claim about reach, which Vornado states per model: 30 feet for the 133DC, 75 for the 533DC, 85 for the 6303DC and 100 for the 660 and 753. It is not a claim about noise. A circulator that pushes a column of air 100 feet is doing more work than a desk fan, and the figures reflect that: the large group's bottom figures start at 39, the personal group's at 32.
Energy Smart, DC and AC
Vornado's DC line carries the name Energy Smart and a DC suffix on the model number. Its 533DC page describes "a more compact, DC-motor air circulator with up to 80 percent energy efficiency", and the 6303DC page says "the brushless DC motor uses up to 80% less energy". The 610DC page describes the control as "variable-speed control" with "nearly infinite airflow possibilities", and the 6303DC offers "99 unique airflow settings". Vornado does not call its other circulators AC on their pages; it describes them by their fixed speed count, such as "3 Speed Control" on the 633 or "4 Speed Push-Button Control" on the 660.
The noise rows show what that buys. Most DC models print two figures, the ends of a dial, and the bottom end is lower than the AC sibling's low speed: 40 against 46 for the 683DC and 683, 43 against 45 for the 633DC and 633, 41 against 45 for the 610DC and 610, 41 against 50 for the 723DC and 723. The top end is higher for every pair: 62 against 56 for the 633DC and 633, 66 against 61 for the 723DC and 723, 60 against 54 for the 610DC and 610. The Watts rows explain the bottom figures. Vornado's Energy Smart circulators list 1 to 3 W at the low end of the dial, against 34 to 44 W on low for the AC 610, 633, 683, 693, 723, 733, 753 and 783. Running that slowly moves little air: the 533DC lists 29 CFM at the bottom of its dial, the 723DC 93.
Where Vornado's pages disagree with their tables
Four pages make a noise claim their own table contradicts. The ARA's table lists 39 at the bottom; its text says "On low ARA registers below 32dB, making it quieter than the standard interior space". The Strata tower's table lists 40; its text says "On low speed, Strata registers below 32db". The Fly Move's table lists 45; its text says "On low the FLY MOVE's DC motor registers below 32dB". The Sphere's table lists 48/46; its text says "Sphere operates at 32 dB, providing power without the noise". The EOS 9 and EOS 9S tables say 30 and their text says 32dB on Low, a smaller gap but still two numbers for one fan.
We rank on the table, because it is the one place Vornado commits to a figure per speed, and we give no award to a fan whose page argues with itself. The Strata 8T is the exception that holds together: its table says 29 and its text says "under 32db" on low, which agrees.
What the numbers mean in a room
Decibels are logarithmic, and roughly every 10 dBA sounds twice as loud. By Vornado's own figures the 683DC at the bottom of its dial, 40 dBA, would sound about half as loud as the same fan on high at 59, and a 753 on low at 39 about half as loud as a 7803 on low at 50. Gaps of a decibel or two, such as the Pivot 3U's 32 against the 133's 35, are too small to trust without a stated distance. Our decibel chart sets these figures beside a whisper, a fridge and conversation, and dBA explained covers the weighting Vornado uses.
Vornado's own slogans, "Whisper Quiet" on the 660, 683 and Duo, "Quiet Operation" on the Pivot 3U, "Ultra Quiet Operation" on the 80X and 733DC, carry no number and we treat them as marketing.
Stock and price on the day we checked
We checked every price on vornado.com on October 3, 2026. Prices ran from $19.99 for the Flippi V6 to $289.99 for the ARA and the VFAN Sr. Pedestal. Sixty-nine of the 99 models with a figure showed in stock in at least one colour; the other 30, including the ATOM 1, 633DC, 783DC and all three DC stand and pedestal models other than the 683DC, were out of stock on Vornado's own site. Vornado also lists a few older models at a $1.00 placeholder price, such as the 6303 and the Pivot 6X, which we treat as discontinued and leave out.
How we chose
We read Vornado's US store listing of 321 products and opened the product page for every fan and circulator with a real price, 139 listings in all. We recorded the Sound (dBA) row exactly as printed, with the Watts and Air Volume rows beside it, the price and the stock status, and any sentence on the page that mentioned noise. We grouped models by Vornado's own size tags, ranked the lowest figure in each row against other lowest figures and the highest against other highest, kept single figures apart, and refused to rank any fan whose page contradicts its table.
We did not measure any of these fans. Every figure here is Vornado's own, from the specification table on its US product page, and Vornado states no measuring distance, no test standard and no speed label for any of them.
