Which pond pump is the quietest?
The quietest pond pumps by maker figures are EasyPro's KLC25 and KLC40 at 35 dB, within EasyPro's range, and Hiblow's WG-2 at 40 dBA at 1 m, within Hiblow's. EasyPro names no distance, so they are not ranked against each other.
Here is each maker's lowest figure for a pond air pump:
- EasyPro KLC25 and KLC40: 35 dB, no distance or weighting
- Hiblow WG-2: 40 dBA at 1 m
- Pondmaster AP-20 and AP-40: 40 dBA, no distance
A 35 next to a 40 looks like a five decibel win for EasyPro. It may not be one. A figure taken at half a meter reads higher than the same pump at one meter, and a reading in plain dB without A-weighting is a different number again; the decibel comparison explainer covers why.
Do submersible pond water pumps have a noise rating?
Submersible pond water pumps carry no single maker noise figure in any source we read. OASE's AquaMax Eco Premium, Atlantic's TT-Series, Aquascape's AquaSurge line, Tetra Pond, TotalPond and Pondmaster's water pumps print none.
We searched every Aquascape pump page and every product page in the EasyPro, TotalPond and Danner stores for a decibel figure. Tetra says only that its fountain pumps "run quietly". The only water pump hit was VIVOSUN, whose 4500GPH page says "Ultra-quiet operation design(30-40db)". That is a range with no distance or setting, so it is quoted and not ranked.
A water pump runs under the surface, which may be why makers skip the number. The sound people notice from a pond is more often the waterfall itself, and no maker puts a figure on that.
How do pond air pump makers state noise?
Pond air pump makers state noise three ways: Hiblow gives A-weighted levels at one meter, Pondmaster gives dBA with no distance, and EasyPro gives plain dB with no distance or weighting.
Hiblow, at one meter
Hiblow's Product Finder heads its column "Noise Level (dBA @ 1m.)", and that is the most complete basis any pond maker here gives. It still names no test standard. The pond sizing page uses a shorter heading, "Noise Level (dBa)", and some of its numbers differ, covered further down.
EasyPro and Pondmaster, with no distance
EasyPro's KLC data sheet, dated 3/17, prints "Noise Level 35 dB" with a note that its figures come from "test results from nominal units". Danner's Pondmaster page prints "Noise Level 40 dba" and stops there. Each maker is compared only with itself.
Which Hiblow pond aerator is the quietest?
The quietest Hiblow pond aerator is the WG-2, at 40 dBA at 1 m in Hiblow's Product Finder; the four pumps Hiblow packages as pond kits read 45 to 48.
On the Product Finder basis, the Hiblow pond pumps rank this way:
- WG-2: 40 dBA
- WG-3: 45 dBA
- WG-4: 45 dBA
- HP-120LL: 45 dBA
- HP-150: 47 dBA
- HP-200: 48 dBA
Hiblow's smaller HP-40 reads 32 dBA at 1 m, the lowest pressure pump on that page. Hiblow does not list it among its pond aerators, though, so it stays out of the ranking.
The WG-4 kit is the cheapest way to buy a Hiblow for a pond, at $688.54 with one diffuser. For ponds 10 to 13 feet deep, Hiblow points to the HP-120LL, HP-150 and HP-200.
For the HP-150 and HP-200, Hiblow's spec sheet prints one noise figure for 50 Hz mains and another for 60 Hz, and its pond page uses the 50 Hz ones.
The HP-150 sheet reads 45 at 50 Hz and 47 at 60 Hz; the HP-200 reads 46 and 48. US outlets supply 60 Hz, and the Product Finder gives 47 and 48, so those are the numbers we use. The pond table shows 45 and 46.
The HP-120LL is harder to explain. Its spec sheet and the pond table give 42, while the Product Finder gives 45. Hiblow offers no reason, so we list both and rank it at 45, the figure on the page that states its distance.
Which EasyPro KLC is the quietest?
The quietest EasyPro KLC models are the KLC25 and KLC40, tied at 35 dB on EasyPro's KLC Series data sheet; the larger KLC60 and KLC80 list 38, the KLC100 40 and the KLC120 42.
The tie favors the KLC40. It rates 45 l/min at 1.85 psi against the KLC25's 26 l/min at 1.42 psi, for $351.56 against $270.59.
EasyPro also sells Stratus SRC rocking piston compressors for larger ponds and lakes. Their sheet gives "<60 dB" for the SRC25, "<65 dB" for the SRC50 and "<70 dB" for the SRC75. Those are ceilings, not values, so they are quoted and left unranked.
Are Pondmaster air pumps quiet?
Pondmaster's AP-series air pumps list 40 dBA for the AP-20 and AP-40 and 45 dBA for the AP-60 and AP-100, on Danner Manufacturing's page, with no distance given.
The AP-40 is the one to buy at 40, since Danner's store showed the AP-20 as unavailable on November 4, 2026. It costs $231.99 and feeds 12 outlets. The AP-100 moves 150 L/min to 11.5 feet deep, at 45 dBA and $442.99.
The AP-series instruction manual linked from the page yielded no readable noise text. Danner says that outdoors "it is recommended that the unit be enclosed to protect it from the elements."
Do OASE, Aquascape, Atlantic and Airmax print pond pump decibels?
No, OASE, Aquascape, Atlantic and Airmax describe their pond air pumps as quiet but give no decibel number in the American pages and manuals we opened.
OASE says the AquaOxy 450's housing "dampens noise for quiet operation", and its US manual's data table has no noise column. Atlantic, now sold on the same OASE US site, gives its Typhoon air pumps no figure. Aquascape credits "integrated rubber feet" on the Pro Air 20 and Pro Air 60 kits. Airmax lists "Whisper Quiet Design" for its PondSeries PS40.
Laguna, Hagen's pond brand, could not be checked. Its US site, lagunaponds.com, showed us a bot check on November 4, 2026, and the archived copies we found were the same check page.
Where should a pond air pump go to stay quiet?
None of the makers here tie placement to a decibel figure, but EasyPro's manual asks for a firm, level base, and Danner and EasyPro both say to shelter the pump outdoors.
EasyPro's KLC manual says "Ensure that the compressor is placed horizontally on a strongly built surface." It also wants the pump above the water line unless a check valve is fitted, so water cannot run back into it.
Hiblow sells a pond aerator enclosure for $121.43 as a kit option. Its FAQ warns that a non-genuine rebuild kit can make a pump "run significantly louder", and EasyPro's troubleshooting table links "loud, irregular noise" to a damaged diaphragm. A pump that grows louder over a season may need a genuine repair kit. For noise from the rest of the yard, see our quiet yard page.
