People searching for WEN generator decibels usually want to know one thing: will the people at the next campsite, or next door, hear it? WEN answers more often than most makers, and it is unusually willing to say under what conditions. Most current WEN inverter pages give a figure "at quarter load", and eight pages, plus a few manuals, also say "22 feet". This page lists every current US WEN generator with a published figure, explains what those figures do and do not cover, and ranks them only against figures stated the same way.
All figures come from WEN's US product pages and owner's manuals, read on October 4, 2026. How WEN compares with Honda, Champion, Westinghouse and others is a separate question, covered in our guide to the quietest generators for camping.
Our picks are listed above, with full specifications for each.
A typical WEN page gives the figure in a sentence: the 56235iX "operates at an extremely quiet 51 decibels at quarter load, quieter than a window air conditioner or the average conversation." Some pages add a feature line with the distance, such as the 56450iX's "extremely quiet operation (58 dBA at quarter load, 22 feet)". The manuals usually repeat it as a Decibel Rating, and the most complete ones spell out both conditions: the DF450i manual says "58 dBA (25% load from 22 feet away)".
So a WEN figure is a sound pressure level at a light load. A quarter load on a 3,500 watt generator is about 875 watts: a small fridge, some lights and a fan. Plug in an RV air conditioner and the engine speeds up, and WEN does not publish what happens then. The older WEN manuals that did publish more show the shape of it. The 56225i, now out of stock, listed "52 dBA at no load 53 dBA at 1/4 load 54 dBA at 1/2 load 57 dBA at 3/4 load", "Tested from 22 ft away with ambient dB rating of 44 dB". The 56200i manual shows a similar climb, from 50 dB at no load to 55 dB at 3/4 load. Neither gives a full-load figure.
WEN mixes "dB" and "dBA" across its pages for what reads as the same measurement. We quote each one as written. Roughly every 10 decibels sounds about twice as loud, so the 17 decibel gap between WEN's quietest and loudest current inverter figure is large. Our decibel chart puts these levels beside everyday sounds.
When a page gives two numbers
One current page disagrees with itself. The 56400iX (4,000 surge watts, CO Watchdog, electric start) says in its feature list "extremely quiet operation (57 dBA at quarter load, 22 feet)" and in its description "operates at an extremely quiet 58 decibels at quarter load". Its manual lists a Decibel Rating of 57 dB, with no load stated. We show both numbers and do not rank it. If you are planning around it, assume the higher one.
The 56455i page is not a contradiction, but it is worth reading closely: it says "58 decibels at quarter load and 57 decibels at no load", and its manual lists a single Decibel Rating of 57 dB. We rank it on the quarter-load 58.
Quarter load, 22 feet: quietest first
These are the current models where WEN states both the load and the distance, on the product page or in the manual. They can be ranked against each other.
- 51 decibels: 56125i, 1,000 running watts. The page says "51 decibels (at quarter load from 22 feet away)".
- 58 dBA: 56450i and 56450iX (gasoline, 3,500 rated watts), and the dual fuel DF400iX, DF450i, DF451i and DF452iX. Each page says "58 dBA at quarter load, 22 feet", and the dual fuel manuals say "58 dBA (25% load from 22 feet away)".
- 62.5 dBA: DF525iX, dual fuel with electric start. The page says "62.5 decibels at quarter load" and the manual adds "25% load from 22 feet away".
- 68 dBA: DG4500iX, an open frame dual fuel inverter. The figure is in the manual only, "68 dBA (25% load from 22 feet away)"; the product page gives none.
The 56400iX would sit at 57 or 58 here, which is why we leave it out.
Quarter load, distance not stated
These pages say "at quarter load" but give no distance, so we rank them among themselves and not against the list above. WEN's other pages suggest 22 feet is its usual distance, but these pages do not say so.
- 51 decibels: 56235i and 56235iX, 1,900 rated watts.
- 57 decibels: 56380i, 3,400 rated watts.
- 58 decibels: 56455i, 3,500 rated watts, electric start.
- 62 decibels: 56432i and 56432iX (3,600 rated watts), and 56477i, 56480iX and the dual fuel DF480iX (4,000 rated watts on gasoline).
- 64 decibels: DF680iX, dual fuel, and TF1300iX, tri fuel.
- 65 decibels: 56250i and 56250iX (the manuals say "65 dBA (25% Load)"), and 56360i, 56360iX and the dual fuel DF360iX.
- 66 decibels: TF1050iX, tri fuel.
Other conditions
- 60 dBA at no load: 56280iX and DF280iX, 2,800 watt models. The pages say "60 decibels at no load" and the manuals "60 dBA (No Load)". A no-load figure describes the engine idling with nothing plugged in, so it cannot be ranked against a quarter-load one.
- 67 dB idle, 74 dB fully loaded: the 56475, a conventional open frame generator with 3,750 rated watts. The figures are in its manual, with no distance. It is the only current WEN with a full-load figure.
We found no noise figure on the pages or manuals for WEN's other current open frame models: the GN400i, GN400iX, GN625i, GN625iX, GN875i and GN875iX inverters, and the conventional GN5600, GN5602X, GN9500X, DF430X, DF472, DF472X, DF475X, DF5600X, DF623X, DF8000X, DF1100X, DF1200X and TF1450X. WEN's power stations, such as the PP1030i, are battery units and are not covered here.
Several models with figures are still listed on WEN's site but were out of stock when we checked, and may be discontinued: the DF250i and DF250iX ("52 decibels at no load"), the DF400i ("58 dBA at quarter load, 22 feet"), the DF500iX ("58 decibels at no load and 64 decibels at half load") and the TF1500XR ("74.7 decibels at quarter load"). We have not ranked them.
What changes the noise between WEN models
- The Super Quiet line. The models WEN names Super Quiet list 51 to 58 decibels at quarter load. The newer models it calls "quiet, portable and lightweight" list 60 to 65, often at similar wattage. The 56235i and 56250i make 1,900 rated watts each, and list 51 and 65 at quarter load. WEN describes the first as "extremely quiet" and the second as "quiet".
- Engine size. Within each line the figure rises with the engine, from 51 on the 60cc and 79cc models to 57 or 58 on the 212cc Super Quiet models. The tri fuel models break the pattern: the 550cc TF1300iX lists 64 and the 457cc TF1050iX lists 66.
- Enclosed or open frame. The DG4500iX, an open frame inverter, lists 68 dBA at quarter load and 22 feet, 10 more than the enclosed 4,500 watt models on the same basis.
- Load. Every WEN inverter figure is a light-load figure. Older WEN manuals show 5 decibels or so of climb between no load and 3/4 load.
WEN's quiet features, in its words
WEN credits its inverters and its Eco-Mode. The DG4500iX page says "The onboard inverter provides quieter and cleaner energy", and that the eco-mode switch lets the engine "automatically adjust its fuel consumption as items are plugged into and unplugged from the panel, minimizing noise and fuel usage whenever possible." The 56125i manual says the same switch makes the engine "automatically speed up and slow down as needed. This reduces fuel consumption and noise levels." WEN publishes no figure for Eco-Mode on or off, and our explainer on comparing decibel ratings covers why claims without a stated condition are hard to check.
WEN also compares its figures to everyday sounds. The 56125i page calls its operation "comparable to the sound of a normal conversation according to the US Department of Health and Human Services". That is WEN's comparison; we have not checked it.
Safety comes before noise
Many current WEN models carry the WEN Watchdog CO Shutdown Sensor, which WEN says "helps protect both you and your family by automatically turning off the generator if dangerous levels of carbon monoxide are detected." Treat it as a backstop, not a reason to bring the generator closer. Never run a generator in a garage, a shed or near an open window to cut the noise. For backup at home, our guide to quiet generators for home backup covers placement and models from other makers, and our guide to the quietest inverter generators under $1,000 sets several WEN models beside rivals at similar prices.
How we chose
We read WEN's US generator collection and opened the product page of every listed generator, plus the owner's manual linked from each page. Picks reflect WEN's figures, the conditions it states, output, weight, features and the price on WEN's site, read on October 4, 2026. Where a page shows a sale price, we list the regular price and note the sale.
We did not measure any of these generators. Every figure on this page is WEN's own, quoted from its US product pages and owner's manuals as read on October 4, 2026, with the load and distance WEN gives and a note wherever it gives none.
